Have fun searching!
There is no town called Lake Norman.
The lake itself is one of the most popular lakes in the entire southeast. Some basic info: Lake Norman is large (32,475 acres and 520 miles of squiggly shoreline), deep (over 110' in parts of the main channel), and quite clean. It is a great recreational lake accommodating boats of all sizes and all types of activities from paddle-boarding to sailing regattas to water skiing to fishing. There are roughly 12,000 individual single-family homes or lots that front the lake. Typically less than 500 true waterfront houses and less than 100 waterfront lots & tear-downs change hands in any given year.
Four counties border Lake Norman; Mecklenburg, Iredell, Catawba, and Lincoln. Lake Norman is located just minutes north of the vibrant, growing city of Charlotte. The main towns that touch the lake are Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, and Mooresville on the east side, Troutman, Terrell and Sherrills Ford on the North, and Denver and a tiny bit of Stanley on the west side. Less populated waterfront areas farther north "up the river" are Catawba and Statesville. The east side has the most development because of the access to highway I-77 and Uptown Charlotte. The north and west sides are a bit less densely populated but growing rapidly. It is considered Lake Norman all the way up the river to Hwy 40. The unofficial main body of the lake is the portion south of Hwy 150 in Mooresville.
Lake Norman is a very popular destination spot for people moving from all across the country and beyond. One reason is that you not only have access to a wonderful, large, recreational lake, but you also can be close to shopping, services, hospitals, employment, and an international airport. The southeast side of the lake, in particular, offers everything you need right there. If you decide to venture into Uptown Charlotte for museums, theatre, concerts, sports, or additional restaurants, you can be there in as little as 15 minutes most evenings.
Charlotte is in a great central location. It is a great base for road trips to the coast, the mountains, and other cities. In 3 to 4 hours you can be at the coast at Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, Charleston, or Hilton Head. The Outer Banks, Savannah, and Atlanta are just a bit farther. If you miss snow, you can visit it in Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2 to 3 hours.
Many of us that have moved to Charlotte by choice came for the weather. Charlotte enjoys four real seasons. Spring comes early and is gorgeous with the flowering pear and dogwood trees, azaleas, and rhododendrons. Fall colors often last for weeks. Winters are mild and short with an average of 1.9 days with snow. Summers are toasty, averaging 35 days over 90 degrees, but with much less humidity than the coast. Severe weather is relatively uncommon as Charlotte is too far inland for the paths of most hurricanes.
Charlotte is known as one of the most generous and friendly cities in the country. In spite of the rapid growth and booming economy, it retains its charm. Uptown Charlotte is a very modern, clean, and walk-able center city with plenty to see and do.
