Cornelius refers to itself as the "Gateway to Lake Norman." It covers a relatively small physical area of just over 12 square miles on the east side of Lake Norman. Much of that area is on one large peninsula sticking out into the lake where many nice waterfront homes are located. It sits just north of Huntersville and less than 30 minutes to Uptown Charlotte. With a population of 24,866 at the 2010 census, that number is now over 30,000.
Cornelius is home to two of the most popular lake-access parks; Jetton Park and Ramsey Creek Park. Both have trails, picnic facilities and host many events. Ramsey Creek Park also has a boat launch, off-leash dog park, and a new public beach.
Many of the most popular waterfront condos are located in Cornelius. You will also find plenty of single-family homes, popular schools, ample shopping, restaurants, and services.
